August Garden

I love Kathleen's post, August Garden Mayhem. She talks about how her garden looks a "little worse for wear" this time of year.

For us, now is the season before the mums and asters and after the daisies, lilies, crocosmia, and daylilies.

The plants that help us through August;

I love our 'Norah Leigh' phlox paniculata.

Here it is with Lychnis coronaria.

And with some sunshine;

I love the bi-colored leaf.

Here she's leaning over our new garden path.

This is also a good time of year for dahlias, either from tubers I bought or seeds I started.

Of course we wouldn't be without echinaceas. I've tried getting other colors than purpurea going but so far no luck.

Here is a "mess o' flowers" along the right path. (You can see Chelsea on the back porch.) But I love the mess right now - coreopsis, Russian sage, calendula, coronaria, rudbeckias and morning glory.

Here is a typical garden bed for us this time of year;

That same bed on July 27th;

Did you notice Jessie hiding out in the photo above?

Here's a tighter shot;

He's having a great time playing in the garden every day. On Monday he has an appointment with the vet to lose his "manliness".

Hope your August is shaping up wonderfully.

You have some beauties still blooming there. Love your dahlias. Love to see the full garden shot.

Well you have to tell about those stones on the walkway now. I know you must have made them because they look personal. I've been wanting to do something like that to make me a patio. Love it girl.

The 'Norah Leigh' phlox paniculata is just beautiful and the dahlias are wonderful too. jessie is so cute. Even though he is black amongst the green he readily disappear into the garden. I hope he has a speedy recovery from his surgery.
P.S. Love the new garden path!

I have never seen the Lychnis and Norah together but this is genius! I might have to borrow it sometime. :) Love your stepping stones. Your dahlias are to die for. I've got 'White Swan' Echinaceas but the newer fancy colored varieties never make it in my garden either. Your garden looks so green and lush. Not too shabby for the middle of August!

Hi! Love seeing your August garden. I once grew 'Norah Leigh' but had completely forgotten about it until now. Yours is stunning! I too love the variegated leaf. Like the photo of the garden path too, the stones are really pretty and how could I not like the photo of the little kitty, Jessie. What a cutie! Thanks again for sharing your 'Norah'!

Awww, thanks Victoria for the love (link and otherwise). I definitely need to take a page out of your book because I don't see anything looking shabby here! I had absolutely no dahlias this year and it's making me sad now. I have to agree with everyone else about how stunning your phlox is ~ the combo is awesome too. You may have lots of copying!!
