Walks

Kim and I have a regular walk we like to take.  There always seems to be something pleasant to look at along the way.

At present the larch trees are showing great color.

And then there was this:

This deer stood as still as possible as we walked by, imitating it's statue cousin I guess.

Oh fall...

Random pictures from some of our walks lately.

Great blue heron on the Boise river.

Some rarely seen chukars.

I can't tell to which species of swan this one belongs.  But it expected a treat we didn't have.

This tree is a perfect example of our weather lately;  between summer and fall.

And yes, we're still overrun with kittens. They're getting bigger. And tamer.

A rare picture of Frankie (in front - who we're keeping), together with his cousin Francine (who we're not planning on keeping.)

And no, to answer your unspoken question, it's not smart to name the ones we're not planning on keeping but we've done so just to know which one it is we're discussing.  So, she's "Francine" until she gets a more permanent home.

And yes, their ears have all been notched.

That's what happens when you take in cats/kittens to the local humane society for spay/neuter.  They insist on the ear notch in case these cats end up living as ferals.  Which they won't.  That's part of why we rescued them.  Doesn't "Francine" look worried?  She is.  She's the shyest of the kittens.

Two of the kittens were outside with Felix playing with...

...this little guy.

First time we've seen a snake of any size in our garden.  (This one was very small.)

Kim rescued and relocated our visitor.

Shafer Butte

Kim and I decided to take a walk along Shafer Butte yesterday. Shafer Butte, which includes the Bogus Basin Ski Resort is about a 45 minute drive (16 miles of winding road) from downtown Boise.
It had been years since we had done this simple 2 mile hike and we had forgotten about the parking fee.

We'd also forgotten our wallets.

Luckily Kim asked the host and was told there is no penalty for not paying, no fine or ticketing involved. So, vowing to pay extra next time, we set off on our hike.

At an elevation of 6,600 ft fall has definitely arrived. The colors of the day were red and yellow.

It's a great hike; some uphill involved but not too strenuous and includes some gorgeous views.

Chelsea has always been smart enough to locate a little piece of shade while she waits for us to catch up.

And a short video of driving through Boise.

Signs of Fall

Cooler weather has arrived along with afternoon walks into the foothills.

On the back porch ripening grapes fill the air with their sweet scent.

And indoors I've begun knitting again.

And on some other blogs;

Patsi at Garden Endeavors shows some fall flowers in her garden.

Same at The Hunky Gardener.

Rosemary retires! Congrats!
