Tomato Update

Kim (aka The Tomato Traitor) has been doing some tomato experimenting.

(He has defended his being named Tomato Traitor by claiming he only thought we needed more tomato plants in general - as he wants to try canning some this year - NOT, repeat, NOT, that in his opinion my precious little handgrown from seed tomato plants were too small and puny.)

So, we have tomatoes growing in the garden with milk cartons buried beside them for good watering depth.

And we have tomatoes planted in containers. (These are my puny little tomatoes from seed - thank you Patsi - just look at them now!)

And we have tomatoes planted on the south side of the house (very hot and sunny) which receive a "compost tea" when they're watered. One of these has been destroyed by a cat - either ours or one of our neighbors. Should have seen that coming.

And finally, a real stretch, we have two tomato plants in the Tuscany Garden hallway. Not a lot of sun in there, but very warm.

It will be interesting to watch them during the summer and see what develops.

Will be interesting to see if your "puny's" out do the bigger bullies!

That's so cute that Kim's a Tomato Traitor. LOL Like your Tuscany wall what I can see of it. Great idea.

Ha!!! Oh, dear, we know how you feel. But at least if the trial works out you'll get a bumper crop.

They all look vigorous and happy to be where they are. Good job! Maybe Kim has a good point with the canning, one can never have enough to can with (wink).

Good explanation from the "tomato traitor" as to why the new plants were bought! lol It looks like you've got a great experiment going there ~ you should definitely be able to tell where the tomatoes like it best by the end of the season.

what a neat experiment! and great idea about the milk jug!

I'm growing mine very close together this year and being vigilant about removing suckers - we'll see how that works out!

It looks, to my eye, that your plants are healthier and stronger that the others. Cheers for homegrown!

Great shot on the last photo, it looks like one of those photos on calendar.
BTW, about the lime tree on my blog, I ordered it online a year ago, not sure how old when they shipped it. I guess it is probably 2-3 y/o now.
If your friend doesn't have lots of bees to take care of pollination, hand pollinate might help to produce some fruits.

your little seeded tomato plants got big fast! Looks like your plants are about double the size of mine right now..
