Working Saturday

Since Kim started riding his bike to work we now stop to have our "catch up" chat on our bicycles when we meet; me enroute home, him enroute to work. (He is working days, I've switched to nights.) It's nice, watching for his bike as I'm riding home in the early pre-dawn morning.

This afternoon when I woke up I saw this guy in the pond.

I guess Scarface hasn't frightened him away yet.

Scarface and Chelsea had some free entertainment today.

The squirrel had better things to do and eventually ran off, using the top of the Moongarden to the roof of the house. Poor dogs, always frustrated.

Blooming today;

Big Betony Pink - Stachys macrantha 'Rosea'

Nigella 'Love in a Mist', re-seeding annual

And I love the way these orange Geums mix in with the soft gray Lamb's Ears.

Sometimes, no, most times, the best combinations in our garden are pure accidents. I try to plan the best spot to plant a particular flower; thinking in terms of foliage, color and bloom time. I used to work at making our garden make sense, somehow, to look planned and professional. But, I've given up on that. I've always wanted 'drifts', drifts of flowers look fantastic, but they take up a lot of space, and that we just don't have in our small city plot. So, we have a very hodge podge type of garden, and we've tried to include as many of our favorite plants as possible. Which makes it very 'senseless' I guess. But we love it.

Here are a couple cartoons from Funny Times. I love my subscription. But, fair warning, it does have plenty of cartoons and humorous writing, but it is rather liberal leaning, which just endears it to me that much more.

Well, gotta work tonight. Everyone enjoy your weekend.

Love the pictures....

As for the heron (we have plenty of them here around the Chesapeake Bay) ....
A friend who has a pond with fish told me that fishing line strung around the edge of the pond or stream will help keep out herons because they don't like anything to touch their legs. I don't know if that's true or not.
