Christmas and Chickens

Well as I expected we've run into Christmas face first since we returned from vacation on Kauai.

Kim has done his part and the tree is up along with a few decorations within the house. He had the outside lights up before we left on our trip.

A view of our tree; it's blue and silver again this year.

Most of our decorations will remain in boxes in the attic this year. I have dragged one Christmas coffee mug out for me to use.

I've been busy making my usual lists; of shopping left to be done and ideas for gift giving, Christmas dinner menu (which will be on the 27th due to Kim having to work on Christmas day), baking to be done, etc. I'll be working up to Christmas day so I'm feeling a little pushed but I'll survive.

The "girls" experienced their first snow when we returned. Tootsie was the only one brave enough to venture out in it. Ginger and Jelly Bean opted to remain in the coop.

Since then we've lost all our snow.
No white Christmas for us this year.
But I love this sight from my kitchen window: the "girls" free ranging and enjoying themselves.

Kauai's wild chickens sure made us feel at home. The locals seem really annoyed by all the free ranging poultry but the tourists seem to love them. Evidently hurricane Iniki was to blame for the chickens on the loose. This was the first time I've seen chickens begging. And it works.

After lunch one day I made the mistake of going to the restroom and this one decided I'd had enough. When I returned it had taken my chair and was in the process of finishing my lunch. My fault, I was feeding parts of my lunch to it and a cat. They were both begging from me, practically side by side. Hilarious.

Here's a pic Kim shot of the sunset.

More pics of Kauai to come.

Beautiful sunset in a beautiful place! Too funny about your lunch! One time we were in Florida on the beach, eating at a cafe there. The sea gulls would come right up and take food out of your hand as you were putting it in your mouth! Crazy.

Kim's photo of the sunset beautiful!
The chickens make me laugh both with the snow and your lunch.
No snow here tho it is in the forecast for later today. Could be a green Xmas.

I love that Tootsie ventured out into the snow and the others wandering around. But I cracked up seeing the ones eyeing your lunch.
Kim's picture of the sunset is just gorgeous - looks like something professional out of a magazine!

Ha!!! Love it, Victoria! The panhandling chickens are just great. And my chickens can relate to your girls' reluctance to venture out into the snow---rain doesn't phase them, but boy, do they hate snow! (And we have 4-plus-inches at the moment, poor things.) Kim's sunset photo is fabulous. And I even love your tree, though normally blue Christmas ornaments leave me cold. Great job!!!! You somehow made them warm.

Nothing says happy holidays like a food stealing chicken!
