It's Too Hot..........

...........to cook. The temp has been over 100 degrees (37.7C) for many days now, but our green beans were ready to be picked. On Rosemary's blog I found the perfect salad recipe to try with our home grown beans.

Did I mention we grew them ourselves??? Yeah, it's been a while since we've grown many veggies, so I'm thrilled when I get to pick something out of the veg garden.

Rosemary's recipe is Bean, Mushroom and Wilted Spinach salad. I thought it tasted great. And with garbanzo beans, fresh spinach and green beans it was good for us too.

What I thought was so great was how easy it seemed to be able to enjoy those green beans. Just plant the seeds, add water, and wait.

On another note, the chicks are growing up so fast; they've moved on to the "junior" feed, enjoy sitting on a roosting post and they put themselves to bed at night.

Look at the "beard" Ginger is developing.

The other night Kim and I were watching the girls make their way to the coop. Kim wanted to take a few pics of them. Tootsie decided she needed to be in the picture in a big way.

She is one curious chicken.

And finally, Ebony trying to beat the heat by catnapping beneath some potted plants in the driveway.

Hope everyone is surviving the summer weather.

Kim and Tootsie were featured on Cute With Chris.

Good Lord! Thanks for reminding me to get out and pick those pole beans! Then I guess I should go back to Rosemary's blog and check out the recipe.

Kim and Victoria,
The beans look great, ours are recovering from a deer snack. The photos of Kim and the chicken are pretty funny! I've had the same problem with Grumpy our one-eyed cat.

Your beans looks great!! I miss growing beans, don't miss picking them(!) ..
Funny chickens! Or should I say just Tootsie?

Your recipes always look so tasty! Whew, this heat is something else. It takes a lot of time just to keep everything watered. My first pole beans are just coming on.
Can't believe how much the 'girls' have grown!!

Victoria - gorgeous salad you've got there, makes me think green beans should be on my list for my very limited exploration of edible plants. I so love those chicks, I'm especially impressed at how well socialized they are. I'd like them even if they didn't get up close to people, but it's an extra treat that they are so comfortable being up close.

I know you have it hot there, and for much longer than us. I didn't plant beans for some reason this year, they really are pretty easy. Your salad looks delicious! The picture of the chicken on Kim's back while he's taking the picture is hilarious.

You bean harvest is great! I have been diligently picking and canning beans here too! I think I have at least one more harvest of the bush beans to go. I haven't spotted much on the pole beans yet, I suppose I ought to look more carefully today.

Cute chickens! I can't wait to let mine out a little. Our yard/orchard/garden isn't fenced for chickens, just cows and deer and dogs. Soon I think they will be big enough to try it out!

Lovely post... I really like the idea of a photographer taking pictures on another photographer in action... The usual phrase is "caught in the act!!"... haha.

Have Fun both of you,

We're having the same heat wave as you! It's been just too hot to even go out in the gardens unless it is early-early or late at night. Loved the picture of Ebony amongst the pots and your cute chicken friend that jumped on Kim's back. Your beans look beautiful and I bet they taste scrumptious too!
