Culling the Co-op

I should have taken a photo when I first arrived home today with my goodies. But I only took one of the "after".

One of the advantages of working at the Boise Co-op; we get the culls. "The cull is the set of items rejected during the selection process" - the items not thought worthy of our customers. So they're left for employees. I'm happy to have them, especially today as I bagged up two heads of organic cauliflower, two heads of broccoli, two red bell peppers and a nice bunch of green onions.

I came home, chopped them up and made myself a nice healthy dinner.

Sometimes I'm glad our customers are picky!

Yum, what a luscious meal! And what a great benefit of working for the co-op, healthy free produce! My CSA gives me fabulous greens for the chickens (in exchange for eggs) for the same reason---members don't want the turnip or radish greens, there are lettuces etc. left over; eventually, there are flawed or overripe tomatoes and other produce. Of course, the chickens love it all. No wonder our eggs are the best around! And yes, like everybody else, I wish I could drop in on you and share that luscious dish!

And from what I understand, if you ever get tired of them, the girls will be able to help you out with them!
