Nighttime Craziness

There was quite the activity around 1AM last night on our block. Some crazy neighbor lady was running around in her back yard, in her underwear, waving a broom and yelling at raccoons.

Oh, wait, that was me.

The little raccoon rascals were trying to catch the fish in our main pond. They barely looked up as I ran out. I finally shooed them away but they are persistent critters and returned almost immediately.

I finally gave up and as they came onto the back porch and started messing around in that pond (don't know why ------ there's nothing in it for them to eat), I decided to take their photographs instead of continuing to make a fool of myself.

I'm sure they'll be back tonight, trying to dine on our koi and goldfish. Oh well. Hope the fish are smart enough to figure out that they could be someone's dinner and stay at the bottom of the pond.

So funny:)
You got some great pictures. I guess they were not really shy. Hopefully you are not loosing any fish to them.

I can picture the whole scene, too funny. You can tell just by looking at their eyes what their evil intentions are. They are so cute and yet so destructive. Do you have anything to cover up the the seafood restaurant, like netting? Raccoons are always so ingenious about getting their way anyways.

My parents had to leave a radio on in their garage go keep them from coming in and eating the cat food (they left the garage door open a bit at the bottom for the cat to come in and out). Anyway, I think the raccoons eventually learned how to change the station to get music they could dance to. Party at the Gentry's garage. Bring your mask.

The little bastages cause us a lot of trouble too. And they get HUGE if they can get enough to eat. Get a slingshot and start practicing!

Funny descriptions! But be careful, they can be aggressive. We had 1 adult in our backyard that liked to walk along the top of the fense. Our dog, Buddy (actually he's not a dog, he's a "people" - just ask him), tried to corner the animal. I had to pull Buddy away. That would not be a fair argument and Buddy would loose. But, I have not seen the raccoon around lately.

LOL--I'm glad I'm not the only one who goes into the garden without a full clothes ensemble. I should try chasing my groundhog with a broom... ~ Monica

that pond must look like a buffet to a raccoon... easy access, fresh fish, no pesky current to deal with...

I guess they were also just getting a drink. Tonight I saw the cats looking out at the garden intensly so
I looked out and yes mother racoon was nibbling on the spent birdseed at the bottom of all feeders...good thing the peanuts are gone because I'm sure she would have climbed the tree to get at them...my curly willow over the pond. I got a chuckle out of jeffrey's comment!!

Hiya! I love this post - so funny. Being from the UK foxes were always a night worry, now living in NZ we have possums and they are a whole new nasty breed entirely!
